In Wonderland

How I’d love to grow so small
That the grass would seem quite tall,
And the meadow - brooklets sound
Like great torrents underground!

Then I’d hasten to explore
Places no one found before;
Through a stranger jungle hie,
Where undreamed adventures lie.

Lovely creatures, voiceless things,
There would shake their speckled wings,
While their eyes would glow like gems
Through the tangled forest-stems.

Fearsome spiders, too, I’d meet,
Crual giants with maily feet;
Yet with sword and buckler small

I’d be brave, and dare them all.
